Infosys Revenue Expected to Surge as Margins Stabilize; Analysts Weigh In on FY27 Guidance and AI Momentum

Infosys, India's second-largest IT services company, is set to announce its June quarter (Q1FY27) results on Thursday, July 23. The market will be closely focused not just on the headline figures but also on the company's future strategic trajectory. Investors are looking for clarity regarding FY27 guidance amidst an uncertain global demand environment and the integration of recent acquisitions like Optimum Healthcare IT and Stratus.

Expected Revenue and Net Profit Figures

Brokerages have set clear expectations for Infosys’ Q1 earnings. The company is anticipated to post strong double-digit year-on-year revenue growth. Estimates place reported quarterly revenue in a robust range between Rs 48,086 crore and Rs 48,659 crore.

Sequential constant currency (CC) revenue growth is expected to be modest at 2-2.2%. However, the year-on-year revenue growth is expected to significantly outperform, likely reaching 13.7-14.9%, with some estimates indicating a near 15% jump. Net profit is expected to fall between Rs 8,049 crore and Rs 8,173 crore for the quarter.

Driving Margin Expansion: Cost Controls and Acquisitions

The outlook for profitability remains positive, with most analysts expecting margins to either remain healthy or improve slightly. Operating margin is projected in the range of 21.2-21.4%, some estimates pushing up to 23.3%. This expansion is underpinned by several factors including favorable currency movements and cost optimization under Project Maximus.

The anticipated improvements are also tied to strategic financial moves, such as reversing visa-related costs incurred in previous quarters and the absence of wage hikes during this quarter. Nevertheless, gains may be partially mitigated by acquisition-related amortisation and ongoing investments into AI capabilities.

The Crucial Debate: Will Infosys Trim FY27 Guidance?

The decision regarding the future guidance for FY27 is likely to be one of the most significant talking points for investors. Brokerages currently hold divided opinions on this matter, indicating market uncertainty. Motilal Oswal anticipates that Infosys may trim the upper end of its FY27 constant currency revenue growth guidance down to 1.5-3%.

Similarly, Elara Securities believes there is a higher probability of the company lowering the upper boundary of its guidance given the relatively weaker Q1 growth momentum. In contrast, BNP Paribas anticipates that Infosys will revise guidance to 2-4% after integrating Optimum Healthcare IT while maintaining an operating margin target of 20-22%.

Segment Performance and Key Investor Watchpoints

Financial Services (BFSI) is strongly positioned to be the primary growth driver for Infosys, supported by improving client spending trends within the US market. Energy, Utilities and Resources (EURS) is also expected to contribute positively to the results. Furthermore, the inorganic growth provided by the Optimum and Stratus acquisitions should offer an additional operational boost.

Conversely, telecom and manufacturing segments are likely facing headwinds, struggling due to continued ramp-down of the Daimler contract and specific client challenges. Beyond these headline numbers, investors will be scrutinizing the management commentary on demand outlook and large deal pipeline updates. Updates on AI-led transformation opportunities and client spending trends across key geographies will be pivotal indicators for global IT services demand.
