Syngene International Limited today released its financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027 (Q1 FY27). The company reported revenue from operations at Rs 736 Crore, while operating EBITDA stood at Rs 91 Crore.

The quarterly performance showed shifts compared to Q1 FY26. Revenue from Operations was Rs 736 Cr in Q1 FY27, down from Rs 875 Cr in Q1 FY26, representing a 16% decrease. Operating EBITDA for the quarter was Rs 91 Cr, compared to Rs 206 Cr in Q1 FY26, marking a 56% decline. The operating EBITDA margin stood at 12%, down from 24% in the previous year's corresponding period.

The company reported PAT before exceptional items of Rs 1 Cr, significantly lower than the Rs 87 Cr recorded in Q1 FY26. After accounting for an exceptional item, PAT was (Rs 9) Cr.

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Executive Chairperson of Syngene, stated that she accepted the role as part of reshaping the company's next phase of growth. She expressed confidence in the management team to execute with discipline while positioning the Company for sustainable growth, driven primarily by CDMO (Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization) and AI-led advanced services.

Siddharth Mittal, Managing Director and CEO, addressed the challenges faced during the quarter, stating a commitment to working closely with the Board and leadership team. He outlined immediate priorities including sharpening commercial execution, strengthening delivery across businesses, and building a more agile, cost-competitive organization. The company will continue investing in CDMO, AI, innovation, and differentiated scientific capabilities.

Deepak Jain, Chief Financial Officer, explained that performance was primarily impacted by the lack of offtake from a major biologics client and forex hedge losses, partially mitigated by ongoing cost optimization initiatives. He noted that despite these headwinds, the company maintains a strong balance sheet, enabling investment in strategic priorities such as infrastructure, technology platforms, automation, and emerging modalities.

While expecting degrowth in the first half of the fiscal year, management indicated that business momentum is anticipated to improve in the second half, leading to single-digit revenue degrowth in rupee terms for the full year and EBITDA margins stabilizing in the mid-20s.
