
SWREL JV Secures Landmark USD 560 Million Solar PV Project In Egypt
Mumbai, June 29, 2026 — Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Limited (SWREL) has secured an order valued at approximately USD 560 million for the West Minya Solar Power Project in the Minya Governorate of Egypt. This contract was awarded to SWREL through a 50-50 joint venture with Hassan Allam Construction, a leading contractor operating within Egypt and the MENA region.The project involves the development of a 1,000 MWac capacity Solar PV project integrated with a 600 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Upon completion, this facility is set to become one of Egypt's largest utility-scale renewable energy developments.
As part of this significant contract, the joint venture will be responsible for the complete engineering, procurement, and construction of the solar power plant. This scope encompasses the installation of photovoltaic generation facilities, battery energy storage infrastructure, grid interconnection works, transmission facilities, and all associated balance-of-plant and supporting systems necessary for project delivery.
Speaking about the successful order win, Mr. Chandra Kishore Thakur, Global CEO of Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Group, emphasized the company's commitment to supporting Egypt's decarbonization journey and strengthening energy security across the broader MENA region. The contract marks the third GW scale order secured by the company within a span of nine months. Mr. Thakur noted that this trend reflects the increasing size of PV projects and demonstrates the sustained trust and confidence customers have in the company's ability to deliver large-scale solar projects, particularly those involving complex technologies such as Battery Energy Storage Systems.
