Sun Pharma Receives ANVISA Approval to Manufacture Semaglutide in Brazil

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited has secured approval from the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency, ANVISA, for manufacturing and marketing its semaglutide injection within Brazil. The treatment is intended for adults with inadequately controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus when used as an adjunct to diet and exercise.

The acquisition of this crucial market authorization signals a significant expansion opportunity for the company in Latin America. Sun Pharma plans to launch the product in the coming days through a partnership with Hypera Pharma, which is identified as a leading pharmaceutical company in Brazil.

The semaglutide injection will be available as a pre-filled, multi-dose injectable pen. It will come in two strengths: 2 mg/1.5 mL and 4 mg/3 mL, allowing for flexible, once-weekly dosing for patients.

Aalok Shanghvi, Chief Operating Officer at Sun Pharma, stated that the Brazilian approval expands access to an evidence-based treatment option for individuals managing inadequately controlled type 2 diabetes. He added that the achievement reflects the development and manufacturing capabilities of Sun Pharma and its commitment to providing high-quality medicines across global markets.

Digvijay Singh, Regional Head for Brazil and LATAM, commented on the approval, noting that it represents an important step in strengthening the company's diabetes portfolio in Brazil.
