Steel Exchange India Ltd Secures Long-Term Iron Ore Supply through MoU with NMDC
Steel Exchange India Limited (SEIL), a leading integrated steel manufacturer in Eastern India, has entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NMDC Limited, India's primary government-owned iron ore producer. This partnership establishes a framework for the long-term supply and procurement of consistent grade Iron Ore Fines, significantly bolstering SEIL's raw material security. The MoU details the procurement of Iron Ore Fines (Fe 61-63% and above) from NMDC's upcoming Buffer Stockpile and Blending Yard, located at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This agreement provides SEIL direct access to the ore via conveyor, FOB, FOR, FOT, or Ex-Stockpile supply, which is located in close proximity to its operations.
The strategic partnership is set for a primary term of four years and is designed to establish the blueprint for subsequent Long-Term Agreements (LTAs).
Strategic Benefits and Operational Synergy
The alliance provides multiple benefits to SEIL, reinforcing its backward integration strategy. The strategic location of the Visakhapatnam hub allows for substantial logistics cost advantages and minimal transit times for SEIL's plant operations in Vizianagaram. The partnership is critical amid SEIL’s ongoing capacity expansion. The secured raw material pipeline complements the company's operational milestones, including the recent commissioning of its Reheating Furnace (RHF), which is driving increased mill utilization.
