Boeing 737 Operating SG121 Turns Back Minutes After Takeoff​

New Delhi, February 24: A SpiceJet flight bound for Leh returned safely to Delhi Airport on Tuesday shortly after takeoff after the crew detected a technical issue onboard.

The aircraft, a Boeing 737 operating as flight SG121 from Delhi to Leh, was carrying around 150 passengers when it turned back within minutes of departure as a precautionary measure.

Safe Landing and Normal Disembarkation​

In an official statement, a SpiceJet spokesperson confirmed that the flight returned to Delhi after experiencing a technical issue.

“The aircraft landed safely in Delhi, and all passengers were disembarked normally. There was no fire warning in the cockpit,” the spokesperson said.

All passengers were safely deplaned at Delhi Airport, and no injuries were reported.

Possible Engine-Related Concern​

According to airport sources, the aircraft may have encountered an engine-related issue, possibly linked to the second engine. However, the airline did not confirm specific details regarding the nature of the technical problem.

Previous Technical Incidents Involving SpiceJet​

The latest incident follows a series of similar precautionary returns involving SpiceJet aircraft in recent months.

In November, a SpiceJet flight operating from Mumbai to Kolkata made an emergency landing at Kolkata Airport after experiencing a technical issue during descent. The aircraft landed safely, and all passengers and crew members were unharmed.

On November 9, flight SG 670 from Mumbai to Kolkata faced a technical issue during descent and landed safely. Passengers and crew deplaned normally, according to the airline.

Earlier, on September 12, a SpiceJet Q400 aircraft operating from Gujarat’s Kandla airport to Mumbai made an emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport after an outer wheel was found on the runway following takeoff. The flight landed safely, and all passengers and crew were unharmed.

In another instance in October, a Patna-bound SpiceJet flight returned to Delhi shortly after takeoff due to a technical issue. Flight SG 497, operated using a Boeing 737, made a normal landing at Delhi Airport. Passengers were safely deplaned, and an alternate aircraft was arranged to accommodate them.

Passenger Safety Maintained​

Across all reported incidents, SpiceJet confirmed that flights landed safely and passengers were disembarked without injury. The airline maintained that necessary safety protocols were followed in each case to ensure passenger safety.
