Shiprocket IPO Smashes Expectations: Retail Roars as E-commerce Giant Achieves Full Subscription on Day Two

The e-commerce logistics platform, Shiprocket, has seen a major rally in investor sentiment following its initial public offering (IPO). The issue was fully subscribed by 10:30 am on August 13, according to data from the NSE. This strong performance signals significant market confidence in the growing fintech and supply chain sector.

The successful subscription was driven primarily by retail and non-institutional investors. Retail investors’ reserved portion of the issue was subscribed at an impressive 4.57 times. The non-institutional investor (NII) category also showed robust demand, being subscribed 1.79 times.

Subscription Metrics and Grey Market Sentiment

The IPO pricing band was set between Rs 92 and Rs 97 per share, with the company targeting to raise a total of Rs 1,617.5 crore at the upper end. The subscription results highlight strong grassroots interest from small-scale investors in the logistics sector.

Ahead of the formal listing, Shiprocket shares commanded a substantial premium in the unofficial grey market (GMP). As reported by InvestorGain on August 13, the grey market premium stood at around 35 percent. This translates to an indicative grey-market price of approximately Rs 131 per share.

It is important to note that while the GMP indicates strong speculative interest and market sentiment, it is not an official indicator and does not guarantee listing gains. The issue offers a fresh allotment worth Rs 885.5 crore alongside an offer for sale (OFS) of Rs 732 crore from existing shareholders.

Financial Health and Business Focus

Shiprocket has demonstrated a clear trajectory of operational improvement despite operating in the high-growth, capital-intensive tech sector. The company reported a net loss of Rs 79.2 crore in FY26. This represents an improvement compared to the loss of Rs 74.4 crore recorded in FY25.

The business model continues to expand its revenue base robustly. Revenue from operations for FY26 rose 24 percent year-on-year, reaching Rs 2,024.1 crore from Rs 1,632 crore in the preceding fiscal year (FY25). These figures indicate a steady decline in losses while simultaneously increasing operational scale.

Allocation of Proceeds and Strategic Partnerships

The company has articulated a clear roadmap for utilizing the net proceeds generated from the fresh issue. A significant amount, totaling Rs 365.6 crore, is earmarked for strategic investments in technology infrastructure and marketing initiatives. Another tranche of Rs 210 crore will be dedicated to repaying or pre-paying borrowings.

The IPO also saw strong participation from key institutional investors prior to the market opening. Shiprocket had previously raised ₹727.41 crore from 50 anchor investors on August 11, allotting 7.5 crore equity shares at Rs 97 apiece. Anchors included global institutions like Nomura and Goldman Sachs, alongside domestic names such as Ashoka WhiteOak.

Domestic mutual funds represented a substantial portion of the anchor allocation. The company allotted 5 crore shares to 13 domestic mutual funds through various schemes managed by leading asset management companies. Insurance providers such as Tata AIA Life and Axis Max Life were also among those who received allocations from the issue.

The E-commerce Enabler Platform

Shiprocket operates a critical end-to-end e-commerce enablement platform in India. Its services span logistics, payments, checkout functionality, fulfillment, and cross-border commerce. The company is positioned as a merchant-first, API-led technology platform designed to serve both MSMEs and large retailers alike.

The IPO was managed by book-running lead managers including Axis Capital, BofA Securities India, JM Financial, and Kotak Mahindra Capital Company. The issue remains open for subscription until August 14, offering investors a chance to participate in the growing digital logistics space.
