Shailesh Vagerwal Assumes Charge as Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Dynamics Limited​

Shri Shailesh Vagerwal has assumed charge as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL). As a distinguished officer of the Indian Ordnance Factories Service (IOFS), Shri Vagerwal brings extensive experience from nearly three decades in the defence manufacturing sector.

The appointment comes after he took charge on July 9, 2026. Shri Vagerwal holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from MBM Engineering College, Jodhpur. He further holds a Master of Science degree in Explosive Ordnance Engineering from Cranfield University, United Kingdom.

During his illustrious career within defence manufacturing, he held several key positions at various ordnance factories and as part of Munitions India Limited, a defence PSU. These roles included assignments at Ordnance Factory Dum Dum, Ordnance Factory Itarsi, Ordnance Factory Khamaria, and the corporate office of Munitions India Limited in Pune.

Shri Vagerwal possesses comprehensive expertise acquired over the years in ammunition and explosives production. His areas of specialization include strategic planning, material management, quality assurance, procurement of plant and machinery, project management, civil works, research and development, exports, business development, human resource management, and industrial relations.

Prior to joining BDL, he served as Chief General Manager at Ordnance Factory, Khamaria, Jabalpur, a unit under Munitions India Limited.
