Sensex Trims Sharp Losses as Markets Battle Global Jitters Despite Select Stock Gains
Indian equity markets found themselves navigating a challenging session on July 24, exhibiting a tendency to trim losses after initial sharp sell-offs. The Nifty remained under pressure for its fifth consecutive session, slipping toward the 23,600 level amid cautious global cues. Expert Analysis and Future Outlook
Analysts maintain a cautious stance regarding the immediate trajectory of the Indian indices. Nilesh Jain of Centrum Finverse noted that the Nifty is currently trading near the lower boundary of a triangle pattern, with 23,600 identified as a crucial support level. He stated that maintaining this support preserves the possibility of a technical pullback towards 24,000 and then 24,200.Rupak De of LKP Securities pointed out that follow-up selling drove the Nifty to 23600, falling below the 50 EMA and confirming a new short-term downtrend. Immediate support is set at 23600; should this level break, investors could panic, posing greater downside risk. He added that unless the index reclaims 24,000, the broader trend is likely to remain weak.
Weekly Trends and Market Risks
On a weekly basis, both the BSE Sensex and Nifty saw a decline of 2.5 percent, suggesting sustained downward pressure over the past week. The escalating Middle East conflict is noted as a key factor, with Brent crude trading above $100 a barrel, contributing to market caution. The data indicates that DII buying has hit a 16-month low as primary market activity starts picking up pace. Given the technical indicators, such as MACD showing a bearish crossover and RSI slipping below the 50 mark on the daily chart, momentum indicators continue to reflect a weak bias for the indices.
