Sensex Surges Amid Sectoral Bifurcation as Analysts Gauge Post-RBI Market Trajectory
The Indian stock market witnessed a mixed session on Wednesday, closing largely flat. The indices recorded sharp upswings followed by declines amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the newly introduced Closing Auction Session (CAS). The Sensex climbed 152 points to settle at 78,581, while Nifty 50 rose 10 points, ending the day at 24,625.The market’s volatility indicator saw a dip, with the India VIX falling 1.5% to register at 12. This session highlighted a distinct trend of sectoral divergence against the backdrop of broader macroeconomic commentary and geopolitical concerns.
Market Response to RBI Outlook and Global Tensions
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) MPC maintained the status quo during the meeting. However, the central bank marginally upgraded its FY27 GDP growth projection, citing the resilience observed in the domestic economy.Announcing a lower outlook for annual inflation estimates, Geojit Investments noted that this indicated an optimistic stance from the governor. Analyst Vinod Nair suggested that while optimism is clear, future policy action remains contingent upon data outcomes.
The market’s movement during the day was influenced by crude price rises. These were fueled by renewed concerns regarding escalating tensions in West Asia, which caused Indian markets to gradually move lower despite strong opening performances.
Key Sectoral Performers and Bullish Trends
Despite general movements, certain sectors defied the prevailing trend. Realty and auto stocks demonstrated outperformance due to expectations of robust demand ahead of the festive season and supportive financing conditions being available.Metal stocks also experienced a gain, which Nair attributed to an improved GDP growth outlook coupled with strong domestic market demand. This sectoral resilience highlights underlying strength in specific consumer-driven segments.
