Sensex Surges 400 Points as Global Tech Rally and Easing Geopolitical Tensions Fuel Market Gains

Amid strong global cues and bullish sentiment from US markets, the benchmark Indian indices saw a buoyant start on Wednesday. The Sensex gained significantly, while Asian equities continued their momentum build. This rally was primarily supported by optimism surrounding technology earnings and improved international sentiment.

Key Global Cues Drive India Equity Rally

The market surge was mirrored globally as Wall Street reached fresh record highs overnight. U.S. stocks performed robustly, driven by upbeat corporate earnings reports. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 1.71 percent, while the S&P 500 advanced 1.79 percent. Nasdaq Composite surged notably, rising by 2.59 percent.

Asian markets continued to extend this global upward trajectory. Japanese equities rallied, with Nikkei 225 climbing 3 percent. Similarly, South Korea’s Kospi gained 3.4 percent, contributing positively to the sentiment in Asian markets generally.

Morning Trading Snapshot: Sensex and Nifty Movement

At the morning trading session at 9:30 a.m., the Sensex showed robust gains. It was up 387.26 points or 0.49 percent, reaching the level of 78,816.21. The broader Nifty index also advanced by 6.05 points or 0.025 percent, standing at 24,620.95.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) remained net buyers on Thursday. FII activity saw them purchase equities worth ₹2,446.47 crore, contributing to the continued market support.

RBI MPC Outcome and Future Outlook

Investor sentiment is closely attuned to the Reserve Bank of India's decision regarding rates. A Reuters poll suggests that the central bank is widely expected to hold rates steady at its meeting later today. Governor Sanjay Malhotra is likely to present a slightly hawkish tone, given concerns over inflation arising from volatile crude prices and reported monsoon shortfall.

Technical Outlook Highlights Key Resistance Level

Market analysts are closely monitoring key technical levels for potential upward movement. Anand James, Chief Market Strategist at Geojit Investments, noted that after initial weakness eased around 24500, a recovery swing began in the second half of the session. He stated that this places hopes alive for another leg of upside movement.

The market appears to have identified 24775 as a critical level it needs to break through today. Conversely, the downside marker is currently being pushed upwards towards the 24530 region.
