Sensex and Nifty Surge Over 1% Amid Broader Oil Declines, Boost Growth Outlook
The Indian stock market witnessed a sharp rally on Wednesday, with both the benchmark Sensex and Nifty indices climbing well over 1%. This significant move took place despite an escalation of tensions in West Asia and a rise in oil prices.Sensex closed at 77,655, soaring nearly 889 points, while Nifty gained around 265 points to settle above 24,250. These substantial gains added over ₹4 lakh crore to the total market capitalization of all companies listed on BSE, lifting it to ₹483 lakh crore.
##Market Drivers and Sectoral Performance
The broader optimism in the Indian equities market was fueled by several factors. Stronger-than-expected Index of Industrial Production (IIP) data provided a positive initial catalyst for the trading session. Renewed risk appetite sustained these gains throughout the day.
IT stocks and metal companies emerged as key beneficiaries during the rally, contributing significantly to the indices' rise. This performance was buoyed by the fact that oil prices have been declining over the past week. This trend has helped ease inflation concerns and reinforced optimism regarding India’s growth prospects.
##Analyst Perspectives on Market Momentum
Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Investments, noted that the market structure is strengthening the case for Foreign Institutional Investor (FII) inflows. He attributes this to the unwinding process of heavily concentrated AI trades.
While intraday crude oil prices saw an uptick due to renewed tensions in West Asia, Nair highlighted that the overarching decline in oil prices offered a degree of relief. The U.S. Federal Reserve's policy decision later in the evening is a key focus for traders. He added that a widely anticipated pause in rate hikes is unlikely to materially affect Indian markets as this outcome is largely priced into current valuations.
##Technical Outlook for Nifty 50
Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities, noted that the Nifty 50 has managed a climb after a period characterized by consolidation on the daily timeframe. The index's Relative Strength Index (RSI) has been observed to enter a bullish crossover.
On a more technical note, the index is sustaining above the critical 50 Exponential Moving Average (EMA). Furthermore, the hourly chart reveals that the index has reclaimed the 200 Day Moving Average (DMA), which confirms near-term strength.
##Target Range and Support Levels for Nifty
Looking ahead in the short term, the technical analyst suggests the index holds strong momentum. Potential upside targets range between 24,450 and 24,500. On the downside, a crucial support level is set at 24,100.
Sentiment could weaken if Nifty falls below this specified support zone. A breach of 24,100, according to LKP Securities, could potentially lead to declines toward 23,950.
