SBI MF Surges into Urban Company, Securing Additional 2% Stake Amid Global Investor Divestment​

On August 13, the market witnessed significant institutional activity in the home and beauty services sector. SBI Mutual Fund successfully acquired an additional equity stake in Urban Company (UC) through open market transactions, signaling strong confidence in the company's future trajectory.

Urban Company shares saw considerable volatility before eventually closing 1.65 percent higher at Rs 141.34 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). This rally followed a period of heavy institutional interest and shifts in ownership structure within UC.

SBI Mutual Fund Acquires Stake as Global VCs Divest Shares​

The acquisition involved SBIMF purchasing 3.15 crore equity shares, representing 2.04 percent of paid-up equity, for a total value of Rs 428.4 crore. This transaction added to the existing 6.59 percent stake held by the asset management company as of June 2026.

Conversely, several prominent venture capital firms chose to reduce their exposure in Urban Company. Vy Capital sold stakes through two vehicles: VYC11 and VY EM2, offloading 96.31 lakh shares for Rs 130.98 crore and 18.68 lakh shares for Rs 25.41 crore, respectively.

Accel India IV (Mauritius) also contributed to the sell-off, offloading 2 crore shares, representing a 1.3 percent stake, which was valued at Rs 272 crore. Bessemer Venture Partners further reduced its holding, selling 1.21 crore shares (0.78 percent stake) for Rs 170.19 crore.

Promoter and Institutional Activity in Select Companies​

Market data also highlighted major movements across various sectors, including retail wealth management and infrastructure. Shirish Govindbhai Patel reduced his holdings in Prudent Corporate Advisory Services, selling 2.3 lakh shares for Rs 76.48 crore at a price of Rs 3,325.27 per share.

In the realm of infrastructure, Diva Projects increased its stake in RPP Infra Projects by acquiring 8.48 lakh shares at Rs 58.88 per share, amounting to Rs 4.99 crore. This acquisition brings their total stake to 5.1 percent over the last three consecutive sessions. Promoter Yagavi N A, however, sold 11.66 lakh shares for Rs 6.88 crore at a price of Rs 59.07 per share.

Notable Acquisitions and Investments​

Diversified investment activity was also recorded in high-growth sectors such as fine jewelry and specialized materials. Vijay Mohan Karnani acquired 11.79 lakh shares (1.09 percent stake) in Renaissance Global, a diamond studded jewellery maker, for Rs 12.98 crore at a price of Rs 110.14 per share.

Meanwhile, the 360 ONE Pipe Fund invested in Seamec, acquiring 2 lakh shares (0.79 percent stake) at Rs 1,529.25 per share, with the transaction valued at Rs 30.69 crore.
