Major Narcotics Crackdown: Police Seize ₹1.2 Crore Worth of Opium at Assam Border
In a significant anti-drug operation, law enforcement agencies successfully seized suspected narcotics worth over ₹1 crore last night. The seizure took place in Srirampur, a border point located in the Kokrajhar district of Assam.Authorities recovered substantial quantities of contraband, specifically suspected opium, from a vehicle operating along the Assam-West Bengal border. The operation was a direct result of receiving a critical tip-off regarding illegal smuggling activity.
High-Value Opium Confiscation Details
Police personnel managed to recover 25 packets of the suspected contraband. These packets were expertly hidden within the fuel tank of the car involved in the incident.The total quantity seized was approximately 24kg of opium. Officials reported that the suspected contraband was valued at around ₹1.2 crore. This raid marks a major blow to regional drug trafficking networks.
Arrest Made During Border Operation
The investigation led to the immediate arrest of the vehicle's driver. The individual has been identified as Krishna Ram Prajapati, who hails from Jodhpur, Rajasthan.The operation was led by local officials, including Montu Ram Bora, Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Gossaigaon. The successful recovery and arrest highlight heightened vigilance along the regional border.
