RBI Grants Three-Month Extension to Urban Co-operative Bank, Dehradun Following Compliance Directive

Reserve Bank of India Extends Mandate Period for Urban Co-operative Bank Limited

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a formal extension regarding the compliance period for the Urban Co-operative Bank Limited, Dehradun. The decision pertains to directions originally issued under Section 35A read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

This directive was first communicated to the bank via Directive No. DDN.DOS.QAG.No.S168/03-04-007/2025-2026, dated February 09, 2026. The initial period for compliance ran for six months, beginning from the close of business on February 10, 2026, and extending up to August 10, 2026.

The RBI has determined that it is necessary in the public interest to further extend the operation of this Directive beyond the previously set deadline. This extension provides additional time for the bank to meet all stipulated requirements.

Details of the Extended Compliance Period

In exercising the powers vested under sub-section (1) of Section 35A read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, the Reserve Bank of India has granted a further extension period.

The initial deadline was August 10, 2026. The RBI has now extended this timeframe by three months. The revised compliance deadline is set for November 10, 2026.

Critical Caveat Regarding Financial Standing

It is important to note the specific terms outlined in the extension order released on August 7, 2026.

The Reserve Bank of India explicitly stated that this extension should not be construed as an indication of satisfaction regarding the bank's financial position. The directive remains a measure requiring compliance under the specified sections of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

Unchanged Terms and Conditions of the Directive

All other terms and conditions associated with the original directive remain unchanged. The extension granted by the Reserve Bank of India pertains solely to the timeline for completion of the necessary operational requirements under Section 35A read with Section 56.
