Ramco Cements to Benefit from Cessation of Mineral Bearing Land Tax in Tamil Nadu

The Ramco Cements Limited has confirmed the cessation of the Mineral Bearing Land Tax, which it was incurring in the State of Tamil Nadu. This change, resulting from the enactment of The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2026 (MMDR), will significantly impact the company's operational costs and profitability.

The amendment to the regulations restricts the imposition of certain taxes and levies by State Governments concerning mineral rights and mineral-bearing lands. Prior to this change, The Ramco Cements Limited had been incurring an amount of Rs.160/- per tonne of limestone towards the Mineral Bearing Land Tax in Tamil Nadu.

The cessation of this levy is expected to translate into a corresponding reduction in the company's operating costs, which will, in turn, have a favourable impact on the company's cash flows and overall profitability.

The tax obligation ended as of August 22, 2026.

Historical payments of the Mineral Bearing Land Tax by The Ramco Cements Limited have been recorded as follows:

PeriodAmount (Rs. in crores)
2025-2026171.78
2026-2027 (Till date)79.07

The company confirmed that the provisions of the MMDR mean it is no longer required to pay the Mineral Bearing Land Tax amounting to Rs.160/- per limestone tonne.
