Prohibition Order Issued for EDC Plant at Chemplast Sanmar’s Karaikal Facility
Chemplast Sanmar Ltd has announced that the operation of its Ethylene-Di-Chloride (EDC) manufacturing plant in the Karaikal facility, Puducherry, has been prohibited following a fire incident.The prohibition order was issued by the Inspector of Factories, Puducherry, on July 19, 2026. The directive strictly prohibits any further use or operation of the EDC Plant. To resume activities, the company must obtain revocation approval from the Chief Inspector of the Factories, Puducherry, after completing all required directives specified in the prohibition order.
The incident stems from a fire that occurred on July 17, 2026, at the designated EDC manufacturing plant within the Karaikal facility.
Chemplast Sanmar Ltd stated it is undertaking necessary corrective actions and is currently preparing a compliance report along with an action plan aimed at securing the revocation of the order. The company is also in the process of ascertaining the extent of the damage caused by the incident.
