Deepening Comprehensive Strategic Ties Between India and Indonesia

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi was warmly received by President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia during a high-level State Visit to the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. This meeting marked the first official gathering between the two leaders since their previous engagement in January 2025. The talks were conducted both ceremonially and at the delegation level, thoroughly reviewing the vast scope of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The partnership encompasses numerous critical areas including trade and investment, energy supply chain stability, defense cooperation, digital transformation, and healthcare systems. Both leaders welcomed the launch of Indonesia Open Network (ION), which is built upon India's Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).

Commitment to Indo-Pacific Stability and Cultural Diplomacy

During the discussions, both nations reaffirmed their commitment to fostering a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific region. The Prime Minister underscored India's visionary initiative, MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions), aimed at securing regional prosperity. President Prabowo conveyed Indonesia’s complete support for India's ongoing Presidency of the BRICS in 2026.

Looking ahead, the two countries planned a joint effort to celebrate the centenary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore's visit to Indonesia. This historic occasion will be commemorated as "Tagore-Dewantara Year for Cultural and Educational Diplomacy." Leaders also explored further strengthening the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Key Agreements Signed on Defence, Technology, and Conservation

Following the high-level discussions, both leaders witnessed the exchange of several significant Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements. These comprehensive accords cover vital areas such as defense readiness, critical minerals and rare earths supply chains, science and technology collaboration, and disaster management protocols.

The exchange also included MoUs focused on education, telecommunications infrastructure, agricultural cooperation, and maritime security. Furthermore, a Letter of Intent was exchanged regarding India's support for the conservation and restoration of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Prambanan Temple Complex in Yogyakarta.

Concluding Luncheon Marks Strong Bilateral Ties

The official engagements concluded with a luncheon hosted by President Prabowo Subianto. The Prime Minister expressed profound gratitude to President Prabowo for his gracious hospitality. PM Modi also extended an invitation to the Indonesian leader, promising continued bilateral engagement and cooperation between both nations.
