
Power Grid Corp Approves Hike in Borrowing Limits and ₹772 Crore Upgradation Investment
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has approved several significant strategic decisions following a Board meeting held on June 26, 2026. The approvals include increasing borrowing capacity and authorizing a major investment project for infrastructure enhancement.The Board considered and sanctioned the proposal to enhance the company's overall borrowing limit from ₹1,80,000 Crore to ₹2,20,000 Crore. This increase in financial headroom is subject to ratification by shareholders at the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM).
In parallel with this capacity expansion, Power Grid authorized raising foreign currency funds through External Commercial Borrowings (ECB) up to USD 500 million from Bank of Baroda.
A key operational decision approved during the meeting was the investment in the 'Upgradation / Conversion of Udumalpet - Madurai 400kV S/c line to Udumalpet - Madurai 400kV (quad) D/c line'. The estimated cost for this project stands at ₹772.65 Crore.
The infrastructure upgrade is scheduled for implementation within 30 months from the date of allocation, setting the completion target for August 11, 2028.
