Petrol and Diesel Prices Remain Stable as India Launches E85 Fuel Amid Global Energy Tensions

India marked a significant milestone on Monday with the official launch of E85 fuel, intensifying the nation's commitment to its ethanol blending programme. This move comes amidst ongoing energy supply chain pressures fueled by the conflict in West Asia. Despite this global backdrop, petrol and diesel prices across major Indian metro cities remained largely stable, reporting only minor revisions in select locations.

Petrol Rate Dynamics Across Major Cities

Petrol rates showed subtle movement across the nation's key markets. Hyderabad was recorded as having the highest price among the tracked cities at ₹115.72 per litre. Thiruvananthapuram followed closely behind with petrol prices steady at ₹115.49 per litre.

For the four major metropolitan areas, rates saw slight shifts. Mumbai and Chennai registered marginal increases of 3 paise and 4 paise per litre, respectively, reaching ₹111.21 and ₹107.88. Meanwhile, petrol prices remained steady in New Delhi at ₹102.12 and Kolkata at ₹113.47.

Sharpest Increases and Declines in Petrol Prices

Geographical movements revealed varied trends in the retail market. Jaipur recorded the sharpest increase in petrol prices, with rates rising by 69 paise to ₹113.35 per litre. Bhubaneswar also saw a notable rise of 24 paise, settling at ₹109.05 per litre.

Conversely, Bangalore registered the steepest decline in petrol costs, dropping by 28 paise and reaching ₹110.61 per litre. Price easing was noted in Lucknow (down 19 paise), Patna (down 18 paise), and Gurgaon (down 8 paise).

Diesel Market Stability and Regional Rates

The diesel market demonstrated broad stability across the country, with few cities registering significant shifts. Thiruvananthapuram continued to report the highest price at ₹104.40 per litre, while Hyderabad stood at ₹103.82 per litre.

Diesel prices remained unchanged in all four metros—New Delhi at ₹95.20, Kolkata at ₹99.82, Mumbai at ₹97.83, and Chennai at ₹99.65. This consistency highlights the stabilizing effect of supply chain management despite external pressures.

Fuel Price Movements: Gains and Losses

The data showed specific upward and downward trends for diesel as well. Jaipur saw a robust surge in diesel prices, rising by 61 paise to reach ₹98.39 per litre. Bhubaneswar also recorded an increase of 24 paise, making its rate ₹100.76 per litre.

Steepest declines were observed in Bangalore, which registered a drop of 26 paise, and the costs eased slightly in Lucknow (down 19 paise), Patna (down 17 paise), and Gurgaon (down 8 paise). Thiruvananthapuram’s diesel price saw a marginal slip of 1 paisa.

Summary of Urban Fuel Rates

The stability reflected across key urban centers was confirmed by the unchanged rates in several cities. Noida maintained its petrol rate at ₹102.12 per litre, while Chandigarh held steady at ₹101.54 for petrol. Similarly, Chandigarh also saw unchanged rates at ₹89.47 per litre for diesel fuel.
