PC Jeweller Jumps on QIP Approval: Debt Reduction and Stellar Fundamentals Drive Share Rally after Market Volatility
Board Approves Rs 1,000 Crore QIP as Stock Bounces Back
PC Jeweller shares saw a significant rally on Monday, jumping around 6% to ₹10.27 apiece, largely driven by the announcement of its board approving a plan to raise ₹1,000 crore through a Qualified Institutions Placement (QIP). This move provides fresh capital and has helped wipe out some of the losses recorded in the previous sessions. The QIP initiative involves increasing the authorized share capital from the existing ₹1,310 crore to ₹1,460 crore. The company will achieve this by creating an additional 150 crore equity shares, subject to shareholder approval, and has approved the constitution of a dedicated QIP committee for the purpose.
Stock Performance Rebounds After Market Turmoil
The stock's trajectory has been volatile in recent periods. While PC Jeweller shares have delivered stellar long-term returns of 220% over three years and 276% over five years, they have experienced significant drops recently. The company’s stock fell 41% in the past year. The share price had previously hit a 52-week high of ₹18 per share last July. Subsequently, it more than halved within less than a year, touching a 52-week low of ₹7.47 apiece in March this year. Despite these lows, the stock has since recovered more than 37%.
Operational Strength and Debt Reduction Bolster Confidence
The rally is being supported by robust operational performance reported earlier this month. PC Jeweller announced that consolidated revenue for Q1 FY27 grew approximately 21% year-on-year (YoY), indicating strong operational health.Crucially, the company remains committed to its goal of becoming debt-free and expects to achieve this milestone during the current quarter. The firm reported a substantial reduction in outstanding bank debt by approximately 24% during Q1 FY27. This translates to a cut of more than 90% since executing the settlement agreement with banks on September 30, 2024.
Strong Financial Metrics and Future Outlook
Financially, PC Jeweller showed a positive trend in net profitability. The company reported a 58% increase in Q4 net profit, reaching ₹150 crore from ₹95 crore in the year-ago period. The market reaction suggests investor confidence is returning, especially as the company leverages its financial health and debt reduction strategy. This backdrop of improving profits combined with strategic capital raising is providing a clear positive catalyst for the ongoing stock ascent.
