OIL Signs MoU with MCD to Establish Compressed Bio-Gas Plants Using Municipal Solid Waste in Delhi
Oil India Limited (OIL), a Maharatna CPSE under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The agreement is intended for the establishment of Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plants based on Segregated Organic Municipal Solid Waste in Delhi. The MoU was signed on July 30, 2026, during an event attended by Smt. Rekha Gupta, Chief Minister of Delhi, and Sh. Pravesh Wahi, Mayor of Delhi, alongside senior officials from the Government of Delhi, MCD, and OIL.
This collaboration represents a major step toward sustainable municipal solid waste management and generating clean, renewable energy in the National Capital Territory. The partnership aims to provide a framework for developing the CBG plants between OIL and MCD.
Under the agreement, two CBG plants are planned initially: one with a capacity of 500 TPD and another with a capacity of 300 TPD. These facilities will utilize segregated organic municipal solid waste generated within Delhi. The operational scope of these plants is expected to produce between 30 to 32 TPD of Compressed Biogas.
The initiative focuses on converting biodegradable waste into renewable green fuel, which supports several critical environmental and urban objectives. By implementing this project, the partnership seeks to reduce landfill dependency, improve sanitation in urban areas, and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
The MoU also contributes to both the Government of India's energy transition goals and its circular economy targets. This development reinforces Oil India Limited's commitment to expanding its waste-to-energy portfolio and aligning with national initiatives such as Swachh Bharat Mission, SATAT, and Net Zero objectives through sustainable infrastructure deployment.
