Oil Jumps Over 6% as Trump Declares Iran Ceasefire 'Over,' Igniting Crude Market Fears

Oil prices surged dramatically, driven by President Donald Trump's declaration that the tentative ceasefire with Iran is concluded. This move has rapidly escalated the prospect of renewed conflict in a critically important global energy region. Brent futures added more than 6% in London as West Texas Intermediate also leaped higher following the statement.

Oil Market Reacts to Escalating Geopolitical Tensions

The President made his remarks during a press conference in Ankara, stating that he did not wish to deal with Iran further. He clarified that while he would continue allowing negotiators to speak with Iran, he felt they were wasting their time.

This renewed tension threatens significant disruption across already tense global energy markets. The instability could complicate the decisions of shipowners and regional producers who must navigate Hormuz, a vital waterway linking Persian Gulf suppliers to international markets.

Speculators Shed Positions Amid Renewed Hostility

The recovery in oil prices comes as a sharp reversal from the preceding trend. The market had been largely wagering on lower commodity prices recently.

Speculators have maintained large short positions in Brent futures. In recent weeks, they have shed net bullish wagers at the quickest rate since the pandemic began in 2020, particularly after Hormuz reopened.

Crude Oil Reaches New Levels Amid Instability

ICE Brent Crude Oil September futures rose significantly to $78.56 per barrel.

The rapid rebound in oil highlights how volatile and sensitive global energy markets remain. The increased instability adds immediate pressure following the previous period of reduced regional tensions. Gold and silver ETFs saw a downturn, falling up to 3% as precious metals reacted to the shift.
