NPPA Issues Demand Notice to AstraZeneca over Pricing of Betaloc-50 Tablets
AstraZeneca Pharma India Limited has received a demand notice from the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) regarding alleged overcharging for its pharmaceutical product, Betaloc-50. The NPPA has alleged that AstraZeneca Pharma India Ltd. sold or marketed Betaloc-50 at a Maximum Retail Price (MRP) higher than the ceiling price notified under DPCO, 2013. Furthermore, the notice cited non-implementation of revised ceiling prices set forth in Notification S.O. 644(E) dated March 02, 2016, and Notification S.O. 1352(E) dated June 02, 2016, pertaining to Betaloc-50 tablets. The alleged contraventions occurred during the period of June to July 2016.
The demand notice specifies a financial impact against the company amounting to Rs. 79,97,457/-. This sum includes interest calculated up to August 10, 2026.
