The Northern Railway has inaugurated a crucial infrastructure boost for Jammu and Kashmir's economy. A dedicated Joint Parcel Product-Rapid Cargo Service (JPP-RCS) train is set to connect the Kashmir Valley to the bustling markets of New Delhi. The initiative aims to provide much-needed relief and a fast commercial route for local traders, especially fruit growers and handicraft merchants.
The special service will operate on a trial basis starting April 17 and running through May 31. Following this period, the railways plan to induct the service into a regular schedule, provided occupancy levels remain satisfactory. This move solidifies connectivity and streamlines the export of local high-value products.
Detailed Schedule and Connectivity Details
The dedicated cargo service will run between Adarsh Nagar in New Delhi and Budgam in Kashmir. The outward journey, utilizing Train No. 00462, is scheduled to depart from Budgam at 6:15 AM. It is expected to reach Adarsh Nagar, Delhi, the following day at 5 AM.For convenience, the train will make scheduled halts enroute at Bari Brahmana and Ambala cantonment stations. The timing at Bari Brahmana Railway Station has been specifically revised to better serve the local trading community.
On the return leg, the cargo will move via Train No. 00461. This train will depart from Adarsh Nagar at 5 AM, reaching Budgam the next day at 10:45 AM. The composition of this special parcel train includes eight parcel vans and one seating-cum-luggage rake.
Transforming the Supply Chain for Kashmir's Goods
The railway officials highlight that this parcel service offers significant advantages over traditional road transport. The rail link covers the distance in approximately 23 to 24 hours, ensuring that perishable commodities remain fresh. This speed is critical for items like apples and cherries. The primary objective of the JPP-RCS is strengthening the local economy of Jammu and Kashmir. It facilitates the rapid transport of Kashmir's unique products to markets across the country. Goods slated for transit include valuable items such as saffron, walnuts, pashmina shawls, and various handicrafts.
Boosting Commerce: Railway Officials’ Viewpoint
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal confirmed the launch, stating that the decision follows persistent demand from both traders and farmers. The primary goal is explicitly to provide fruit growers and handicraft traders in Kashmir with a fast, safe, and economical method of transport.Singhal noted that the Northern Railway is committed to ensuring this mode of transport is both efficient and reliable. This dedicated logistical backbone is expected to greatly boost commerce and market access for the region's valuable agricultural and artisanal sectors.
