The Jammu Division has announced a major infrastructure development designed to revolutionize cargo transport in the Kashmir Valley. The introduction of the ‘Joint Parcel Product – Rapid Cargo Service’ (JPP-RCS) train marks a significant relief for local traders and farmers. This new service is expected to substantially strengthen the economy by providing rapid movement of valuable agricultural and handicraft goods.

New Rail Link Services Budgam and Delhi Trade Corridors

The JPP-RCS service is operating on a trial basis, slated to run from April 17 to May 31. The dedicated rail link will connect Adarsh Nagar Delhi with the market hub of Budgam. Authorities anticipate that the service's efficiency will lead to its permanent continuation.

The dedicated cargo operation is robustly scheduled to manage high volumes of goods. Train No. 00462 will depart from Budgam at 6:15 AM and reach Delhi by 5:00 AM the following day. Conversely, the return journey via Train No. 00461 will leave Delhi at 5:00 AM, arriving in Budgam by 10:45 AM the next day.

Streamlining High-Value Cargo Logistics

The dedicated parcel train is equipped to handle significant freight, consisting of eight parcel vans and one seating-cum-luggage rake. Operational ease is maintained through scheduled halts at Bari Brahmana and Ambala Cantonment, facilitating efficient loading and unloading processes.

Officials confirm that this rail transport mechanism ensures delivery within a rapid window of 23 to 24 hours. This makes it exceptionally well-suited for highly perishable items, including apples and cherries. It also provides a more affordable and reliable commercial alternative compared to road transport options.

Boosting Jammu and Kashmir's Handicraft Economy

The primary goal of the JPP-RCS is to create a robust supply chain for Kashmiri products. The initiative aims to facilitate the fast movement of specialty goods, such as saffron, walnuts, Pashmina shawls, and various handicrafts, to markets across the country.

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal noted that the service was introduced specifically in response to persistent demand from both farmers and local traders. This operational enhancement guarantees a fast, safe, and economically viable transport mechanism for regional commerce.

Ensuring Supply Resilience Amidst Weather Disruptions

Beyond the commercial benefit, the service is crucial for maintaining general supply chain resilience. It ensures the uninterrupted supply of essential goods, especially critical during periods of disruption.

The railway link provides an essential backup to road transport, which can frequently face closures due to landslides or severe weather conditions affecting the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
