Lamborghini Sees No Immediate Gains from India EU FTA, Eyes Future Inclusion for Hybrid Models

Plug In Hybrid Range Excluded from Current Trade Agreement

New Delhi, March 19 Italian luxury sports car manufacturer Automobili Lamborghini has said it will not benefit from the recently signed India European Union free trade agreement, as the current framework excludes plug in hybrid vehicles.

Chairman and CEO Stephan Winkelmann stated that while the agreement signals a positive step toward tariff reduction, it does not apply to Lamborghini’s portfolio, which is fully composed of plug in hybrid models.

“There is good and bad news. The signing between India and the EU to reduce tariffs is a positive sign. But unfortunately, this is not affecting our type of cars because they are for internal combustion engine cars and not for plug in hybrids,” he said.

He added that both plug in hybrids and fully electric vehicles are currently outside the scope of the agreement, though the company remains hopeful about future inclusion.

Lamborghini Maintains Stable Growth Outlook in India

Lamborghini, which offers models such as Urus SE, Temerario, and Revuelto in India with prices ranging from Rs 4.47 crore to Rs 8.70 crore ex showroom, has crossed the milestone of selling over 100 units annually in the country.

Winkelmann indicated that the company expects a steady performance in the Indian market based on current conditions.

“Our forecast is to have a stable situation in the Indian market,” he noted.

Long Term Growth Backed by Changing Demographics

Despite the lack of immediate benefits from the trade deal, Lamborghini remains optimistic about India’s long term growth potential. The company highlighted a shift in buyer demographics as a key driver.

“We think that there will be growth in the future as there is a change of generation in the Indian market. There is more openness to buy our type of cars,” Winkelmann said.

He also pointed to improving infrastructure and a stable government environment as supportive factors for future expansion.

No Aggressive Sales Push, Focus on Sustainable Expansion

Lamborghini clarified that it does not intend to aggressively push volumes in India to achieve short term targets. Instead, the company plans to scale gradually in line with market maturity.

“We will be ready to do more, but we will never push the cars into the market,” Winkelmann said, adding that the company aims to avoid sharp fluctuations in annual sales.

He noted that achieving higher milestones such as 150 or 200 units annually will depend on how the Indian luxury car market evolves over time.

Strong Global Performance Continues

On the global front, Automobili Lamborghini reported deliveries of 10,747 cars in 2025, marking the third consecutive year the company has surpassed the 10,000 unit milestone.

The company also highlighted that Indian customers, both domestically and overseas, continue to contribute to its global demand, supported by a younger generation increasingly drawn to high performance luxury vehicles.
