MRC Agrotech Ltd Partners with Banaras Hindu University for Commercialization of Wheat Variety​

MRC Agrotech Limited has formalized a strategic collaboration agreement with Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, marking a significant step in the company's effort to commercialize advanced agricultural technologies. The Collaboration and License Agreement was finalized on July 17, 2026.

Under the terms of the agreement, BHU granted MRC Agrotech Ltd a non-exclusive and non-transferable license. This license covers the complete spectrum of the wheat variety 'HUW 838', which was developed by the agricultural scientists at the Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University. The licensed activities include commercial production, processing, packaging, marketing, and sale of Foundation Seed, Certified Seed, and Truthfully Labelled Seed derived from this particular crop.

The agreement establishes a collaborative framework designed to facilitate the market rollout of the wheat variety in line with mutual commitments and applicable laws. MRC Agrotech Ltd has secured the license for an initial period of five years, with provisions allowing for renewal upon mutual consent between both institutions. Crucially, all intellectual property rights and breeder's rights related to the variety will continue to vest with Banaras Hindu University as specified in the agreement.

MRC Agrotech views this partnership as a vital milestone in its broader strategy of engaging with premier academic and research institutions.
