DDWS Hosts Plantation Drive in Delhi under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’

The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jal Shakti, organized a significant plantation drive at the Rashtriya Swachhata Kendra in New Delhi. This event was held as part of the nationwide observance of World Environment Day 2026 and the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative.

The gathering highlighted DDWS’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sanitation awareness. The activity was attended by senior officials, including Shri Ashok K.K. Meena, Secretary of DDWS. He was joined by Shri Kamal Kishore Soan, Additional Secretary & Mission Director of the National Jal Jeevan Mission, among other department members.

Scope of the ‘Swachh Gaon, Surakshit Jalvayu’ Campaign

The plantation drive falls under the banner of the 'Swachh Gaon, Surakshit Jalvayu' (SGSJ) campaign. This initiative was launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC). The SGSJ campaign is running from June 1st to June 5th, 2026.

The overall goal of the campaign focuses heavily on awareness generation and behavioral change regarding environmental protection. It seeks to sensitize citizens across rural areas about crucial sustainable practices and ecological responsibility.

Focus on Waste Management and Environmental Protection

A key element of the SGSJ campaign is dedicated sensitization around Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2026. These critical rules have been in effect since April 1st, 2026.

The initiative emphasizes linking sanitation directly with overall environmental responsibility. By conducting drives like this at Rashtriya Swachhata Kendra (RSK), DDWS reinforces the connection between clean living and ecological health. The campaign also promotes awareness regarding Mission LiFE principles.

Campaign Culminates with Gram Sabhas Across India

The national campaign is scheduled to culminate today with a special 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' plantation drive. Furthermore, focused Gram Sabhas are being held across various Gram Panchayats throughout India.

These events underscore the DDWS's continuous efforts to mobilize community participation. The combination of environmental action and awareness generation through these structured drives is central to the ministry’s mandate.
