Massive Boost for Tribal Students: NESTS Partners with Bihar Govt to Strengthen EMRS and Ensure Quality Education​

The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), operating under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bihar Mahadalit Vikas Mission. This strategic partnership aims directly at strengthening the implementation of the Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) Scheme in Bihar. The collaboration seeks to elevate educational standards and provide quality schooling opportunities to tribal students across the state.

The MoU signing ceremony saw the participation of key dignitaries, including Smt. Ranjana Chopra, Secretary of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs; Dr. Pratima, Commissioner, NESTS; and Smt. Priyanka Rani, Director of the SC & ST Welfare Department, Government of Bihar. This agreement provides a comprehensive framework for coordinated action between both institutions regarding EMRS in Bihar.

Commitment to Operationalizing EMRSs in Bihar​

The memorandum addresses crucial aspects related to the planning, establishment, operation, and continuous monitoring of EMRSs within Bihar. A primary focus is ensuring that all sanctioned schools are operationalized promptly. The partnership aims to robustly strengthen the existing EMRS ecosystem through improved governance and institutional coordination mechanisms.

The State Government has committed to undertaking necessary measures for the swift completion of school infrastructure projects. Furthermore, recruitment of both teaching and non-teaching personnel will be managed through a centralized process stipulated by the agreement. This joint effort is designed to ensure uniform standards of quality across all affiliated schools.

Financial Support and Academic Standardization​

Financial assistance under the EMRS Scheme has been provisioned at a rate of ₹1.47 lakh per student. This crucial financial input places Bihar in line with other states that have entered into similar agreements with NESTS for bolstering their residential school systems.

The MoU emphasizes that the quality of education must be consistently high. Therefore, the agreement mandates the implementation of a common academic framework. This framework will be based on the NCERT curriculum and strictly aligned with CBSE norms and standards.

Nurturing Talent and Empowering Tribal Youth​

This collaboration represents a significant step toward providing equitable access to top-tier educational opportunities for Scheduled Tribe students in Bihar. NESTS is mandated to manage a robust network of EMRS schools, ensuring holistic development at par with the best national institutions.
