Maruti Suzuki To Bridge Skill Gap: Advanced Manufacturing Labs Set Up At Five Gujarat ITIs
Maruti Suzuki Pledges Skilling Initiatives in Gujarat
Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) announced a major commitment to skill development, pledging to establish Advanced Manufacturing Labs (AMLs) at five Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across Gujarat. This initiative is part of the company's broader strategy to nurture a skilled and future-ready workforce aligned with the evolving automotive ecosystem. The decision follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MSIL and the Directorate of Employment and Training (DET), Government of Gujarat. The AMLs are slated for implementation in ITIs located in Palanpur, Bhavnagar, Surendranagar, Godhra, and Dahod.
Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs at MSIL, emphasized that these labs are designed to provide students with experiential learning. He stated that the goal is to instill confidence in modern equipment, thereby nurturing professionals ready for seamless integration into the automotive industry.
Bridging Industry Requirements and Classroom Learning
The establishment of these AMLs directly addresses the gap between theoretical classroom knowledge and practical industrial requirements. Stuti Charan, IAS, Director at DET, Government of Gujarat, highlighted that MSIL is effectively bridging this critical divide through these labs.MSIL has a robust plan for expanding its manufacturing operations within Gujarat. Bharti noted that each such expansion necessitates a corresponding new industrial ecosystem, which in turn demands a skilled and forward-looking workforce. The AMLs are designed to meet this latent demand by ensuring the talent pool is industry-ready.
Expanding Maruti Suzuki's Nation-Wide Skill Development Footprint
This latest commitment in Gujarat further expands MSIL’s existing nationwide skilling footprint. Currently, MSIL supports 31 ITIs across India that deal with manufacturing-related trades. The company has already established 18 AMLs throughout the country. With the addition of these five new labs in Gujarat, MSIL will consequently operate a total of 23 AMLs. These facilities will be spread across seven states and union territories, including Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Chandigarh.
