Market Rally Surge: Sensex Recovers from Early Dips as IT Stocks and Oil Price Ease Drive Gains
The benchmark Indian equity indices, led by a robust rally in technology shares and easing global crude oil prices, managed to erase early losses and trade higher on Tuesday. The recovery highlighted the resilience of specific sectors amid broader market volatility.Initially, the Sensex had slipped 130.56 points (0.16%) to close at 76,705.22. Similarly, the Nifty saw a minor decline of 34 points (0.14%), settling at 23,961.95. However, strong value buying emerged at lower levels, enabling both indices to turn decisively positive by midday.
At approximately 11:15 am, the Sensex had recovered significant ground, trading higher by 72.90 points (0.095%) to reach 76,908.68. The Nifty also rallied strongly, rising 28.15 points (0.12%) and reaching 24,024.10.
IT Sector Drives Rally Amid Global Caution
Strong buying interest in Indian Information Technology stocks was identified as a key catalyst for the market's positive trend. The Nifty IT index gained 3%, outperforming a broader Asian technology sell-off that was fueled by concerns over the funding requirements of the AI boom. The sectoral index has achieved a gain of 6% over the last two sessions, following Jefferies upgrading the sector from "underweight" to "neutral." Key stocks benefiting from this rally included TCS (advancing 4.4%), HCLTech (3.2%), Tech Mahindra (2.8%), and Infosys (2.7%).
Crude Oil Price Drop Stabilizes Commodity Sentiment
Global commodity sentiment improved as Brent crude oil declined by 1.2%, hitting approximately $87.3 a barrel. This fall extended an existing decline of 8.7% from the previous session. The move was linked to optimism surrounding ongoing talks between Washington and Iran, following statements that indicated potential for resolution. Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, commented that crude prices declined as concerns over possible supply disruptions diminished due to renewed engagement with Iran.
Investor Focus Ahead of Fed Policy Decision
Investors remain keen observers of the US Federal Reserve's policy decision scheduled for Wednesday. The market is focused on how the central bank assesses the potential inflationary impact of the Iran conflict on the US economy.Nachiketa Sawrikar, fund manager at Artha Bharat Global Multiplier Fund, noted that while a rate hike was not anticipated, the Fed maintained an option for further policy tightening should inflation prove more persistent than expected.
Technical Outlook and Sector Specific Moves
From a technical perspective, Anand James, Chief Market Strategist at Geojit Investments, advised that yesterday's rally brought Nifty closer to its 10 and 20 day Simple Moving Average (SMA). This level is currently likely to resist further upside attempts. The strategist added that fears of a deep plunge toward 23200 could be set aside as long as market dips remain contained within the support levels of 23891 or 23800. In specific stock movements, Coal India fell 3% after missing its June quarter profit expectations, while Bharat Electronics saw a decline of 3.3% on margin concerns.
