Hindustan Copper to Surge: ₹7,188 Cr Capex Plan Targets 12.20 MTPA Production by 2030

State-owned Hindustan Copper Ltd (HCL) has unveiled a massive capital expenditure plan designed to fuel the expansion of its mining operations. The company has committed a total capex of Rs 7,188.90 crore over the next five years. This strategic roadmap, outlined in the Corporate Plan – Vision 2030, aims to transform HCL into a modern, high-output copper enterprise.

The ambitious investment is backed by aggressive targets for increased production and enhanced profitability. HCL is setting its sights on achieving significant operational scale and integrating cutting-edge technology across all its units.

Investment Breakdown: Rs 7,188 Cr Capex Over Five Years

The planned spending is structured year-on-year to manage the massive scale of the investment. The initial outlay for the current year is set at Rs 450.51 crore.

Spending is scheduled to ramp up significantly in the subsequent years. In 2027, HCL plans to allocate Rs 1,421.73 crore, followed by a peak expenditure of Rs 1,993.70 crore in 2028. The spending continues to accelerate, reaching Rs 2,227.18 crore in 2029. The five-year cycle concludes with an allocation of Rs 1,095.48 crore in 2030.

Production and Profit Targets

This capital expenditure is directly linked to substantial growth in copper production. HCL projects that its total ore production will dramatically increase from 4.21 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) in the 2025-26 cycle.

This capacity is forecast to soar to 12.20 MTPA by the 2029-30 period. Alongside this physical expansion, the company also anticipates a robust rise in financial health. Profit after tax (PAT) is expected to jump from Rs 589 crore in 2026 to Rs 1,568 crore by 2030. The company further expects dividend payouts to increase in line with this projected earnings growth.

Future-Proofing Operations with Digital Transformation

Beyond physical infrastructure, HCL has also launched its IT Vision Document 2026–2030. This initiative forms the bedrock for a digitally integrated and future-ready organization.

The roadmap outlines a strategic digital overhaul aimed at unifying operations and boosting efficiency. Key technological upgrades include deploying hybrid underground communication systems and upgrading core network connectivity using MPLS and high-speed Internet Leased Line links.

Furthermore, the plan mandates building a unified digital infrastructure via a new integrated command and control centre. HCL is modernizing its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform with a consolidated management dashboard and deploying a future-ready private 5G network.

The adoption of advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) analytics is also central to the plan. These technological measures are expected to significantly boost operational productivity, enhance worker safety monitoring, and strengthen overall corporate governance, ensuring a clear return on technology investment.
