The Magnum Ice Cream Company (TMICC), a global leader in the ice cream business, has established a new Research, Design & Innovation (RDI) Centre in Bengaluru, India. This facility is designed to accelerate consumer-led product and packaging innovation across its brand portfolio within the region.

The state-of-the-art center, spanning 13,000 square feet in Whitefield, Bengaluru, houses a cutting-edge laboratory and a digitally enabled pilot plant. The RDI Centre brings together ice cream science, culinary craft, packaging expertise, and consumer insights to address the specific needs of the Indian market.

This hub is set up to support Kwality Wall's, Cornetto, Magnum, Carte D'Or, Feast, and Twister brands. Its operational capabilities are extensive, covering product and process development, sensory testing, consumer technical insights, and regulatory assessment. The facility enables faster experimentation across various formats, including cups, sticks, cones, kulfi, and premium ice cream cakes.

To ensure innovations are viable for the Indian market's real-world conditions, the centre provides specialized services such as cold-chain and climate testing, 3D packaging prototyping, and transport simulations.

Chitrank Goel, Deputy Managing Director of Kwality Wall's (India) Limited, stated that access to world-class R&D capabilities has enhanced the company's ability to respond quickly to evolving consumer preferences. He emphasized that the new Bengaluru centre will help create products relevant to Indian tastes and occasions, reinforcing the commitment to building a future-ready ice cream business in India.

The launch of the centre signifies TMICC's dedication to premiumization, quality, and local execution within India’s growing ice cream category.

Zbigniew Lewicki, Chief Research, Development & Innovation Officer at The Magnum Ice Cream Company, noted that the facility strategically links local insights with global capabilities. He explained that while drawing on expertise from TMICC’s Global Design Centre in Colworth, UK, and its Regional Innovation hub in Istanbul, Turkey, the Bengaluru RDI Centre will serve as a crucial conduit for translating consumer desires into market-ready innovations.

Mr. Lewicki added that India is an exciting and fast-evolving ice cream market, and the new centre is instrumental in moving faster from initial idea to innovative product through robust processes covering product development, sensory assessment, and cold-chain validation.
