Operational and Segment Highlights
Kaveri Seed Company Limited noted that its cotton business maintained a strong foundation in northern markets, including Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan. The company successfully introduced new cotton products, which grew their contribution to the portfolio from 22% in the previous year to 37%. Despite facing challenges such as reduced sowing acreage and illegal cotton, volumes were kept constant compared to Q1FY26.In the maize segment, the company observed a 30% drop in sowing acreage in Karnataka, leading to a 39% decline in maize volumes. Nevertheless, the introduction of new single-cross hybrids accounted for over 20% of that specific portfolio.
The agricultural seed division also reported stability in Bajra volume, noting that the contribution from new hybrids increased from 61% to 65%. Additionally, the company successfully introduced Hybrid paddy varieties KRH7344 and KRH7227, which contributed significantly at 62% of the new product bucket.
Export Business Sees Significant Growth
The export business demonstrated remarkable growth, rising substantially from ₹ 1.15 crore to ₹ 5.79 crore.Commenting on the results, Mr. G V Bhaskar Rao, Chairman and Managing Director, stated that while the rainfall deficit created a difficult quarter due to lower farmer interest in premium products, the cotton segment held firm. He added that the encouraging reception of the new hybrid paddy varieties, combined with the 4x year-over-year growth in the exports business, shows strong prospects for international markets.
Mr. Rao also mentioned that while maize volumes were impacted by acreage decline in Karnataka, he anticipates spillover demand if rainfall improves during Q2FY27.
