Jio Platforms Surges into Global Top 20 in WIPO Patents Ranking

Jio Platforms Limited (JPL), a technology subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited, has achieved a significant milestone by surging into the global top 20 in the latest Patent Co-operation Treaty (PCT) rankings released by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). This recognition highlights the company's rapid ascent among international innovators.

The report, which ranks top PCT applicants based on published data, noted that JPL climbed 320 places to secure a spot among elite global technology leaders. Competitors listed in this advanced field include giants such as Huawei, Samsung, Qualcomm, LG, Panasonic, Nokia, Google, Apple, and Microsoft.

Jio's patent portfolio is highly concentrated on next-generation digital technologies. These areas include 5G, 5G Advanced, 6G, artificial intelligence (AI), AI-native networks, cloud-native platforms, intelligent automation, radio access, core network software, edge intelligence, fixed wireless access, network slicing, and digital services infrastructure.

The achievement was noted by Akash M. Ambani, Managing Director of Jio Platforms Limited. He stated that the ranking reflects JPL's sustained efforts to transform into a deep-tech company and demonstrates the velocity of innovation across multiple advanced technologies. He added that the accomplishment contributes to India's objective of becoming a global deep-tech powerhouse, supporting the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.

The jump in rank is particularly noteworthy given that global PCT filings grew by less than 1% during the period. The WIPO ranking serves as a key external validation of JPL’s research and development productivity and intellectual property depth, positioning India innovation strongly within the global technology landscape.

As of March 31, 2026, Jio Platforms reported comprehensive patent data that underscores its rapid growth in intellectual property creation.

JPL continues to ensure that its innovations are grounded in technologies it has developed and commercialized at scale. The company is also actively developing sunrise technologies intended for the next wave of digital infrastructure, including 5G/6G Radio, 5G/6G Core, satellite communications, and Agentic AI through JioBrain.

Jio Platforms’ emergence as a global tech IP leader signals a broader transition within India's technology landscape—moving from large-scale technology deployment toward original technology creation. Through its ecosystem of network infrastructure, devices, applications, and content, JPL aims to enable the vision of Digital India for 1.4 billion Indians, propelling the nation into global leadership in the digital economy.
