izmo Microsystems Named Key Packaging Partner in India's National Silicon Photonics Mission

Bengaluru, April 27, 2026 — izmo Microsystems, a wholly owned subsidiary of izmo Limited, has been named the official Photonic IC Packaging Partner for a major national project led by the Centre for Programmable Photonic Integrated Circuits and Systems (CPPICS) at IIT Madras. This recognition highlights the company's critical role in advancing Silicon Photonics technology within India's high-performance computing and secure communications sectors.

Silicon Photonics represents a frontier technology critical for the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced computing systems. izmo Microsystems has built a strong presence as a leading photonics packaging company in India, specializing in sub-micron precision packaging—a capability vital for connecting chip design to real-world commercial applications.

Dinanath Soni, Director of izmo Microsystems, stated that the partnership with CPPICS-IITM is a powerful validation of the company's expertise. He added that as global demand for high-speed, light-based computing increases, izmo is positioned to lead the way in delivering indigenous, state-of-the-art solutions.

Boost to National Technology Sovereignty

The national focus on Silicon Photonics technology sovereignty was further underscored with the launch of major technology solutions by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on April 24, 2026.

Shri S. Krishnan, Secretary of MeitY, launched two key indigenous technology assets at the CoE-CPPICS, IIT Madras. These initiatives are designed to serve as a shared national facility for the Indian photonics Research & Development (R&D) community.

The two technology solutions launched are:

SolutionDescriptionStatus
Silicon Photonics Process Design Kit (PDK)Provides essential design enablement with over 50 verified components for photonics chip manufacturing. For R&D Use
Universal packaged PPIC Test EngineA state-of-the-art automated characterization platform for photonic and optoelectronic modules. For R&D Use

This major milestone enables industries, startups, academic institutions, and defense R&D organizations to develop advanced Photonic ICs within India.

The Silicon Photonics CoE-CPPICS follows a Product Research, Development and Manufacturing (PRDM) model. It utilizes CMOS-compatible silicon photonics technology, featuring SilTerra Malaysia as its foundry partner and izmo Microsystems in Bengaluru serving as the photonic IC packaging partner.

The center confirmed that beginning in Q3 of the current financial year, it will enable Silicon Photonics Multi-Project Wafer (MPW) fabrication runs while also offering comprehensive testing, packaging, and module characterization services.
