IndiGo Reports Q1 Results: Total Income Rises Amid Squeeze as Net Loss Reaches INR 2.38 Billion

IndiGo (InterGlobe Aviation Limited) reported its first quarter of fiscal year 2027 results on July 23, 2026, highlighting strong revenue growth against a backdrop of operational volatility. While total income increased significantly year-on-year, the company recorded a net loss for the quarter, driven by external market pressures.

For the quarter ended June 30, 2026, IndiGo reported a total income of INR 256,141 million, marking an increase of 18.9% compared to the same period last year. However, profitability was strained as the company incurred a net loss of INR 2,380 million, contrasting sharply with a net profit of INR 21,763 million reported in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year.

The decline in profitability across the airline was attributed to fuel price escalation, adverse foreign exchange movements, and the ongoing Middle East conflict.

Operational and Revenue Performance

Consolidated operational metrics for the quarter showed stability alongside increasing market pressures. Passenger volume increased by 0.7% to reach 31.3 million, while capacity grew by 2.9%, reaching 43.5 billion Available Seat Kilometers (ASKs).

Revenue from Operations reached INR 245,841 million, an increase of 19.9%. This revenue is broken down into passenger ticket revenues amounting to INR 218,786 million (up 23.0%) and ancillary revenues at INR 24,534 million (up 13.9%). The Yield metric stood at INR 6.04 per kilometer, reflecting a 21.3% increase from the previous year's level of INR 4.98/Km.

The airline managed an operational efficiency level with a load factor that saw a slight dip of 1.3 percentage points to 83.3%.

Profitability Metrics Deteriorate

Despite revenue growth, profitability metrics declined across various financial indicators due to rising costs. Total expenses for the quarter stood at INR 258,525 million, which is a 34.4% increase compared to the same period last year. A significant cost driver was fuel cost, which rose by 85.7% to reach INR 108,329 million.

The pressure from fuel costs and rupee depreciation resulted in a loss of approximately 2 billion rupees for the quarter.
