The foundation of regional stability was reinforced as India and Japan concluded their 8th Defence Policy Dialogue in Tokyo on July 13, 2026. The dialogue saw Indian Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh lead the Indian delegation, meeting with Mr. Kano Koji, Vice Minister of Defence for International Affairs from Japan. Both nations thoroughly reviewed the extensive progress made in bilateral defence cooperation.

The two delegations reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering the already strong India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. A key diplomatic gesture involved the presentation of an invitation by Raksha Mantri to the Minister of Defence of Japan for a visit to India at the earliest opportunity. The day also included symbolic acts highlighting shared commitment to peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region.

Commencing his visit, Defence Secretary Singh laid a wreath at the Self-Defense Forces Memorial Stone in Tokyo. This act paid tribute to the members of the Japan Self-Defense Forces who made supreme sacrifice while serving their nation. The entire visit served to visibly underscore the mutual respect and deepening defence ties between India and Japan.
