HCLTech partners with Sarvam and Government of Odisha to establish AI Data Center in Bhubaneswar​

HCLTech, a global technology firm, has announced plans to establish its first AI Data Center in the upcoming Odisha Sovereign AI Park in Bhubaneswar. This initiative represents a significant investment into India's sovereign AI play and local developer ecosystem.

The AI Data Center will be set up through a partnership involving HCLTech, Sarvam, and the Government of Odisha. The planned capital outlay for this project has been set at Rs 14,257 crores, which includes financial assistance provided by the Government of Odisha.

This strategic investment aims to boost India's AI infrastructure by leveraging HCLTech’s full-stack AI capabilities combined with Sarvam's foundation models. The facility will provide sector-specific AI applications to both private and public enterprises, helping address government sovereignty needs. Furthermore, it supports the delivery of multi-lingual AI based services for the last mile, aligning with the goal of AI benefiting everyone.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) formalizing this partnership was signed in Bhubaneswar, attended by key figures from all three entities. Participants included the Chief Minister of Odisha, Sh. Mohan Charan Majhi; Dr Mukesh Mahaling, Hon'ble Minister of Electronics and IT, Government of Odisha; Roshni Nadar Malhotra, Chairperson, HCLTech; C Vijayakumar, CEO & MD, HCLTech; and Pratyush Kumar, CoFounder of Sarvam.

Speaking on the endeavor, Roshni Nadar Malhotra, Chairperson of HCLTech, stated that "HCLTech has been a flagbearer of India's technology industry." She added that, in line with the Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, they aim to be an enabler of India's sovereign AI ecosystem through focused investments and differentiated offerings across the value chain.

C Vijayakumar, CEO & Managing Director of HCLTech, noted that this milestone is crucial for their full-stack AI strategy and will allow them to address the high demand for sovereign AI solutions. He expressed excitement about collaborating with the Odisha government and Sarvam, noting Odisha's progressive policy environment and excellent infrastructure.

Pratyush Kumar, CoFounder of Sarvam, emphasized that the Odisha Sovereign AI Park is designed to connect Indian models with high-performance compute and real-world applications, enabling them to bring Sarvam's full-stack AI capabilities to enterprises and public systems at scale.
