GST Collections Surge Past ₹2 Lakh Crore, Hitting 14-Month Peak as Import Taxes Drive Record Growth

July's stellar collection figure follows a strong momentum established in June, when GST revenues had risen 13.9 percent to reach ₹1.95 lakh crore. At the latest tally of ₹2.11 lakh crore, the growth registered was the highest since May 2025, a month in which revenues had grown 16.4 percent year-on-year.GST collections had first crossed the ₹2 lakh crore threshold earlier this fiscal year in April, reaching a record ₹2.43 lakh crore. This peak in April was supported by activity from year-end business transactions and annual return filings. After moderating to ₹1.94 lakh crore in May and recovering to ₹1.95 lakh crore in June, collections have once again breached the two lakh crore barrier.
Net GST Revenues and Customs Tax Surge
When factoring in refunds, net GST revenues stood at ₹1.81 lakh crore for July, marking a 15.8 percent increase from the previous year. Total refunds during the month increased by 13.1 percent to ₹29,968 crore.A key indicator of import activity is the dramatic surge in net customs GST revenues, which climbed 30.3 percent. This accelerated growth in customs tax collection directly reflects heightened taxation on imports.
Cumulative Gross and Net GST Collections (April-July FY27)
On a cumulative basis covering April to July of Fiscal Year 27, gross GST collections rose by 10.1 percent. The total reached ₹8.43 lakh crore from the ₹7.66 lakh crore recorded in the corresponding period last year.Net GST collections for this four-month period also saw a healthy increase of 9.2 percent, amounting to ₹7.21 lakh crore. This consistent growth across both gross and net collections signals stable fiscal health related to GST adherence and tax structure.
