Green Graphite Technologies and Rain Carbon Canada Complete Project to Advance Graphite Production for Lithium-Ion Batteries
Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, April 1, 2026 – Green Graphite Technologies Inc. (GGT) and Rain Carbon Canada Ltd. (RAIN) announced the successful completion of a project to advance the production of coated spherical purified graphite, a critical material in the manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles (EV), micromobility, energy storage systems, and other devices. The project received CA$682,000 in support from the Government of Ontario through the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN), with a total project value of CA$2.05 million. The collaboration combined GGT's graphite purification technology with RAIN’s expertise in carbon material processing and coating. The project involved transforming graphite from various sources, including natural flake graphite, end-of-life batteries, and gigafactory production scrap, into coated spherical purified graphite (CSPG).
The successful results have enabled GGT to proceed with construction of the first phase of its demonstration plant in Mississauga, Ontario, which is expected to be operational early next month.
Raed Kadri, Head of OVIN, stated that the project accelerates the growth of Ontario companies and powers the global supply chain. Claudia Krywiak, President and CEO of the Ontario Centre of Innovation (OCI), highlighted the project's role in strengthening domestic supply chains and reducing reliance on global imports.
Gillian Holcroft, Cofounder & CEO of GGT, noted that the collaboration demonstrates what is possible as the company moves towards a commercial CSPG plant in 2029.
