Government Revises PLI Timelines for Ola Electric, Securing Full Five-Year Incentive Window Through CY2031

Ola Electric Mobility Limited has secured significant incentives following a revision of the ACC Production Linked Incentive Scheme timelines by the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), Government of India. The approval allows the company to access up to ₹7,240 crore in cumulative PLI incentives over five years through calendar year 2031.

The MHI revision pertains to Ola Cell Technologies Private Limited (OCT), a wholly owned subsidiary of Ola Electric. This revised timeline is critical for Ola Electric's battery business and its ambitious expansion plans, transforming an earlier milestone overhang into a structured financial opportunity.

According to the company, PLI incentives will be disbursed quarterly starting next quarter as Ola Electric scales its cell manufacturing capabilities. The approval confirms a full five-year incentive window for Ola Electric’s 20 GWh allocation.

Operational Milestones and Technology Focus

Ola Electric currently maintains 2.5 GWh of installed cell-manufacturing capacity, with an additional 3.5 GWh under installation. The company is set to reach 6 GWh by the end of the current quarter, achieving this initial milestone ahead of the revised December 2026 timeline.

The MHI decision effectively extends the original timelines by two years. This advancement accelerates India's only operational ACC PLI gigafactory towards a capacity of 20 GWh and supports Ola Electric's broader energy roadmap.

Ola Electric is developing a multi-chemistry cell platform encompassing both NMC and LFP technologies. The company emphasizes that its manufacturing includes indigenous R&D, increased localization of battery materials, improved manufacturing yield, and closed-loop material recovery processes.

Lithium cells are recognized as foundational technology across various sectors including electric mobility, energy storage, drones, robotics, and next generation industrial systems. Building these capabilities domestically is seen as strengthening India's energy security and creating a competitive domestic battery ecosystem.

Management Perspective

Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Ola Electric, stated that the revised timeline constitutes more than an extension. "It transforms the economics of our cell business by converting an earlier milestone overhang into a five year, quarterly PLI opportunity of up to ₹7,240 crore," he said.

He added that since incentives were not factored into previous projections due to overshooting original timelines, Ola Electric is now well ahead of the government's revised schedule and can access the full potential of the incentives starting next quarter.

The company plans to unveil its broader energy product roadmap, including Shakti, Mahashakti, and the next phase of its energy platform, during its annual Sankalp event on Independence Day.

OLAELEC Stock Price Movement

Ola Electric Mobility Limited is gaining momentum, with shares climbing 0.96% to trade at ₹40.04 as of 9:25 AM today. The stock currently sees high activity, having traded a volume of 8.19 million shares in the morning session.
