Gold advanced for the fourth straight session on Thursday, reaching its highest level in seven weeks. Spot gold traded up 1% at $4,285.84 per ounce, marking the highest level since June 18. The momentum was sustained by lower Treasury yields and expectations of potential stability regarding the Strait of Hormuz reopening.U.S. gold futures also climbed 0.9%, hitting $4,345.80. Other precious metals showed resilience, with Silver rising 0.2% to $62.19 an ounce after a significant surge in the preceding session. Platinum and palladium also recorded gains.
Crude Oil Prices Fall on Peace Deal Hopes
Crude oil prices declined as investors weighed the potential outcomes of ongoing Iran-Oman talks. The developments raised hopes for a U.S.-Iran peace deal, which could conclude the five-month war and facilitate the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.Brent crude futures fell 0.5%, or 37 cents, settling at $79.08 a barrel. Meanwhile, U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures saw a decline of 0.7%, amounting to 53 cents, reaching $74.69 a barrel.
Dollar Index Struggles for Direction
The dollar index, which gauges the strength of the U.S. currency against six major peers, remained largely stable.
