
Global Health Limited Announces Hospital Expansion in Varanasi, Medical College Development
Global Health Limited (NSE: Medanta, BSE: 543654), also known as Medanta, announced on March 25, 2026, its plan to establish a 400-bed multi-specialty hospital in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The company’s Board of Directors approved a definitive agreement with Shripal Hospitality LLP & Others for a build-to-suit development and lease agreement to develop the hospital.Previously, a wholly-owned subsidiary, Global Health Institute of Medical Sciences Foundation, was incorporated on March 30, 2024, to establish and manage educational institutions, including a medical college. This was done in accordance with prior regulations. Subsequent regulatory changes issued by the National Medical Commission permit any company to establish medical colleges, leading the Board to approve the application for the medical college through Global Health Limited itself.
The proposed hospital is expected to cater to a population base of over 4 million in Varanasi and surrounding regions. The project includes an estimated investment of Rs. 322 crores, to be funded through internal accruals or debt.

Medanta plans to invest approximately Rs. 550 crores towards interior services, fit-outs, and medical equipment. The civil infrastructure will be developed by Shripal Hospitality & Others.
Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman and Managing Director of Medanta, stated the expansion reflects the company’s commitment to enhancing access to advanced healthcare in the region. The company anticipates that the facility will serve as a key healthcare hub for Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Mr. Pankaj Sahni, Group CEO, highlighted the underserved nature of the Varanasi market and Medanta’s aim to address the gap in tertiary care. The expansion will bring Medanta’s total capacity in Uttar Pradesh to approximately 1,900 beds.
Global Health Limited has six operational hospitals and one under construction, with a total installed bed capacity of 3,597 as of December 31, 2025.
