Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE), a Navratna Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, has announced its financial performance for the first quarter of Financial Year 2027. The company reported significant growth in Q1 FY27, achieving a revenue of Rs 1814.62 Crore and recording a Profit After Tax (PAT) of Rs 172.84 Crore.

The results highlight a sustained upward trajectory for GRSE. Revenue saw an increase of 38.53% compared to Q1 FY26, while PAT increased by 43.83% in the same period.

Management Perspective on Growth and Future Strategy​

Commenting on the quarter’s performance, Cmde PR Hari, IN (Retd), Chairman and Managing Director of GRSE stated that the Q1 FY27 results were encouraging, noting that their efforts towards excellence contributed to the company achieving Navratna status.

To maintain growth momentum, the management plans an aggressive business development, marketing, and bidding strategy targeting both domestic and export orders. The company is simultaneously focused on greenfield and brownfield expansion to construct larger and technologically advanced platforms that meet global quality standards. GRSE will continue to adopt new technologies, including AI-driven shipbuilding, to enhance efficiency across operations.

About Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited​

GRSE has a long history in the shipbuilding industry, dating back to 1884 when it began as a workshop for the River Steam Navigation Company. The company was taken over by the Government of India in 1960.

GRSE holds the distinction of being the first shipyard in independent India to build a warship for the Indian Navy, the Seaward Defence Boat (SDB) INS Ajay, in 1961. The company has also carried out significant international projects, including building 'CGS Barracuda', an export warship for the Government of Mauritius; a Fast Patrol Vessel 'SCG PS Zoroaster' for Seychelles; and an Ocean-Going Cargo & Passenger Ferry Vessel 'MV Ma Lisha' for the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.

As the only Indian Shipbuilder with four distinct shipyards, GRSE has built over 800 platforms, including 118 warships for the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, and various friendly foreign nations—representing the highest number of warships built and delivered by any Indian shipyard to date.

Beyond shipbuilding and ship repair, GRSE operates in the engineering business. Its product profile includes pre-fabricated steel bridges, deck machinery items, assembly, testing and overhauling of marine diesel engines, and the manufacture of 30mm Naval Surface Guns. The company has been recognized with several accolades, including the Defence Minister's Award 2025 for Excellence in Financial Performance and the Defence Minister's Award 2022 for Designing the most silent ship for Indian Navy ASW operation. GRSE possesses the capacity to undertake concurrent construction of up to 28 ships at one time, supported by a strong team of skilled design engineers and state-of-the-art Next Generation VR Lab capabilities.
