Swiggy Raises Platform Fee to Rs 17.58 Per Order, Matches Zomato Pricing
New Delhi, March 24: Food delivery platform Swiggy has increased its platform fee to Rs 17.58 per order, according to details visible on its app on Tuesday. The move comes shortly after rival Zomato revised its own fee structure. This marks Swiggy’s first platform fee hike since September last year. With the latest revision, the company now charges Rs 17.58 per order, inclusive of GST.
Zomato Fee Hike Brings Parity in Pricing
Zomato had earlier, on March 20, raised its platform fee by Rs 2.40 to Rs 14.90 per order on a pre-GST basis. With GST applied, Zomato’s charges now align closely with Swiggy’s updated fee, effectively bringing both platforms to a similar pricing level of around Rs 17.58 per order. What Platform Fees Mean for Users
Platform fees are fixed charges applied to each order, separate from delivery charges and restaurant costs. These fees are typically used to support operational expenses, including technology infrastructure, maintenance, and customer service.Rising Costs Likely to Impact Food Delivery Prices
The latest increase in platform fees by both Swiggy and Zomato is expected to raise the overall cost of ordering food for users across the country. The revisions come at a time when crude oil prices are rising amid ongoing conflict in West Asia. Higher fuel costs are anticipated to increase delivery expenses, which may be reflected in user charges through such fee adjustments.
