Kanco Tea & Industries Ltd has reported significant operational disruptions across its tea estates, Bamonpookrie and Mackevpore, following massive flooding triggered by incessant rainfall and a cloudburst in neighboring Nagaland.
The inundation caused by the weather event has severely impacted infrastructure at the Bamonpookrie Tea Estate. The affected areas include labor quarters, staff quarters, the factory, and other critical estate infrastructure. Plantation areas and labor quarters at Mackevpore Tea Estate have also sustained damage due to the flooding.
Production at the Bamonpookrie Tea Estate Factory has been halted as a result of the adverse conditions. The company is awaiting a reduction in water levels before conducting an inspection to determine the full extent of the impact on its operations. Kanco confirmed that the property, stock of finished goods, and stores & spares are insured, subject to deductibles and policy limits.
Regarding Mackevpore Tea Estate, while plantation areas and labor quarters were affected by the flooding, the plucking of green tea leaves is scheduled to resume from the following day.
The company has stated that further updates regarding the operational status will be provided in due course as management assesses the damage sustained across both estates.
