
Dalmia Bharat Sugar Approves US$132 Million Tanzanian Sugarcane Project and Expands Global Footprint
Dalmia Bharat Sugar and Industries Limited announced significant strategic approvals concerning its international expansion, committing investment toward a new sugar manufacturing unit in Tanzania. The company's Board of Directors approved the project related to sugarcane plantation setup and also green-lit the incorporation of a wholly owned subsidiary in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Furthermore, the board appointed senior management for one of its domestic units.The strategic approvals were made at the Board meeting held on July 14, 2026.
Investment in Tanzanian Sugar Manufacturing Unit
The Board approved a project focused on setting up a Sugarcane Plantation and a Sugar Manufacturing Unit of 3500 TCD along with a 20 MW Co-gen facility in Tanzania. This initiative will be undertaken through Eagle Agrotech Tanzania Limited (EATL), which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Eagle Agrotech Holdings Limited (EAHL). The estimated project cost for this venture amounts to US$132 Million.The company also committed to an additional investment up to US$ 19.70 Million in EAHL through equity or other instruments, to be disbursed in one or more tranches. This addition is intended as part of the ongoing commitment toward its 51% equity contribution in EAHL, supplementing a previous Board approval for investment up to US$ 3 Million.
EAHL, a company registered in Abu Dhabi Global Market, United Arab Emirates, serves as the holding company for EATL, which is establishing the sugarcane plantation and sugar manufacturing unit in Tanzania. As of March 31, 2026, the turnover of EAHL was nil. Dalmia Bharat Sugar and Industries Limited maintains a 51% stake in EAHL.
Establishment of UAE Holding Entity
In addition to funding the Tanzanian project, the Board of Directors approved the incorporation of a wholly owned subsidiary company within the United Arab Emirates. This new entity will be established with an initial investment of US$ 1000 and is designated to hold the Company's current and future foreign investments. Dalmia Bharat Sugar and Industries Limited will own 100% of this newly incorporated entity.Appointment of Unit Head
The Board meeting also resulted in the appointment of Shri Lokendra Singh Lamba as Unit Head for Jawaharpur Unit of the company located in Uttar Pradesh, effective July 15, 2026. This position is categorized within Senior Management Personnel and was appointed on the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee.Shri Lamba brings over 35 years of experience with various leading brands in India. His qualifications include a B.Sc. Agriculture. Prior to joining Dalmia Bharat Sugar and Industries Limited, his professional experience includes roles such as Sr. VP/ Complex Head (Unit Head) at Uttam Sugar Mills Ltd., Sr. GM - Cane (Cane Head) at Bajaj Hindustan Sugar Ltd., GM - Cane (Cane Head) at Rana Sugar Ltd., VP- Cane (Cane Head) at New Swadeshi Sugar Mills Ltd., and Asst. Cane Development Officer at Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd.
