Commodity markets witnessed a significant rally on July 22, driven by escalating geopolitical instability in the Middle East. Crude oil prices extended their gains after reports confirmed increased military activities involving Iranian targets and drone attacks reported in Kuwait.Meanwhile, gold saw strong buying support as investors flocked to safe-haven assets ahead of crucial guidance expected from next week's U.S. Federal Reserve meeting.

Crude Oil Surges Amid Geopolitical Tensions​

Oil prices pushed higher after the U.S. military announced it had struck Iranian military targets for the 11th consecutive night. Concerns over potential supply disruptions were amplified by reports of attacks involving Iranian drones in Kuwait.

Brent crude experienced a solid gain, rising 0.55% to settle at $91.51 a barrel. WTI crude also gained ground, climbing 0.36% and reaching $84.64 per barrel. These rallies follow the events of Tuesday when both benchmarks reached their highest levels in five weeks following military actions targeting sites in southern and western Iran.

Safe-Haven Demand Drives Gold Rally​

Gold prices continued to advance sharply as geopolitical uncertainty deepened, fueling persistent safe-haven demand for the precious metal. Spot gold rose 0.9% to $4,113.73 per ounce, marking a high not seen since July 10.

U.S. gold futures for August delivery also saw substantial gains, rising 1.1% to trade at $4,119.10 per ounce. Other precious metals were also active; silver held steady at $58.83 per ounce while platinum and palladium managed to edge higher.

Dollar Index Holds Steady as Markets Await Fed Guidance​

The U.S. dollar index maintained stability, holding close to a one-week high of 101.20. The dollar also slipped slightly against the Japanese yen, dropping 0.1% to 163.06 after previously touching a four-decade high in the prior trading session.

The ongoing market activity remains highly contingent on forthcoming policy decisions. Investors are keenly awaiting next week's Federal Reserve meeting for further clarity and guidance regarding the future outlook for interest rates.
